U.S. Representative Linda Sánchez, who has represented California’s 38th district since 2003, addressed Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the ongoing federal government shutdown, and its impact on military families in a series of posts on her social media account.
On October 13, 2025, Sánchez marked the national holiday by stating, “On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we not only celebrate Indigenous cultures and resilience — we recommit to honoring our promises to tribal nations. I’ll keep fighting for policies that uphold sovereignty, protect sacred lands, and ensure Indigenous voices are always heard.”
Later the same day, Sánchez announced an upcoming public event in her district: “I’m hosting a live telephone town hall on Wed, Oct 15 at 7 PM to discuss the federal government shutdown and how it’s affecting you. Registration is required to join and open to all 38th District residents.”
On October 14, Sánchez commented on the effects of the government shutdown, writing, “This is a result of the Republican Shutdown. Our own military at food banks because Republicans are too stubborn to pass a budget that works for the American people.”
Sánchez has been an active member of Congress since succeeding Steve Horn in 2003. She was born in Orange, California in 1969 and currently resides in Whittier. Sánchez earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991 and her law degree from UCLA in 1995.
