Rep. Linda Sánchez, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 38th district since 2003, recently addressed her followers on social media about important issues regarding civil rights and historical remembrance.
On February 18, 2025, Sánchez emphasized the importance of understanding one’s rights when approached by immigration or law enforcement authorities. She invited the public to participate in a virtual “Know Your Rights” workshop with CHIRLA on Thursday at 7:00 PM PT. The presentation will be conducted primarily in Spanish with some English translations. “Regardless of your immigration status, it’s important to understand your rights if approached by ICE or law enforcement.”
Sánchez reiterated this message in Spanish for her Spanish-speaking constituents, highlighting the significance of knowing one’s rights irrespective of immigration status and inviting them to join the same informational workshop. “Independientemente de su estatus migratorio, es importante que conozcan sus derechos si se encuentran con agentes de inmigración o otros agentes de la ley.”
The following day, on February 19, 2025, Sánchez commemorated the Day of Remembrance for the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. She urged learning from this historical event to prevent future infringements on civil liberties. “Today is the Day of Remembrance for the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII.”
