Rep. Linda Sánchez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 38th district since 2003, used her social media platform to address recent concerns about U.S. trade policy and the potential impacts of a government shutdown.
On September 30, 2025, Sánchez questioned the logic behind former President Donald Trump’s trade policies, stating: “Let me get this straight. Trump’s trade war is preventing U.S. farmers from selling to China.
Then he used taxpayer money to help Argentinean farmers sell soybeans to China.
Remind me again how does that help American farmers? https://t.co/4yuXyP349v“
The following day, October 1, 2025, Sánchez commented on the looming threat of a government shutdown and its implications for Americans. She wrote: “A government shutdown is intimidating and scary. Here’s what it means for you and your family. “ In a subsequent post made at nearly the same time, she elaborated: ” Social Security & Medicare benefits will continue, but processing and customer service could slow. Seniors and vulnerable Americans shouldn’t have to worry because of Republican dysfunction.”
Sánchez has served in Congress since replacing Steve Horn in 2003 and represents constituents from California’s 38th district. Born in Orange, California in 1969 and currently residing in Whittier, she holds degrees from both UC Berkeley (BA) and UCLA (JD). Her recent comments come amid ongoing debates about agricultural trade policy with China—a contentious issue during Trump’s presidency—and continued political disputes over federal budget negotiations that have led to repeated threats of government shutdowns.
