Rep. Linda Sánchez, who has represented California’s 38th district in the U.S. Congress since 2003, recently posted a series of statements on social media reflecting on congressional service, the January 6 Capitol attack, and former President Donald Trump’s actions.
On January 6, 2026, Sánchez addressed the passing of her colleague Doug LaMalfa: “Doug LaMalfa served his constituents for more than 20 years and will be missed in Congress. My thoughts are with his wife, family, and loved ones mourning this loss.”
Later that day, she marked the fifth anniversary of the Capitol riot: “I will never forget January 6th. Hiding in a barricaded room with my colleagues as a mob stormed the Capitol. I’m forever grateful to the officers who defended us and our democracy. Five years later, we must never forget or allow anyone to rewrite the history of that dark day.”
On January 7, Sánchez commented on former President Trump’s conduct: “Trump is making up fraud allegations to punish anyone who goes against him. Families who are in desperate need will pay the price. Children should not be used as political pawns, and we sure as hell don’t need a president who is willing to use them as such.”
Sánchez was born in Orange, California in 1969 and currently resides in Whittier. She holds a BA from UC Berkeley (1991) and a JD from UCLA (1995). Her tenure began after succeeding Steve Horn in Congress.
