Rep. Linda Sánchez, representing California’s 38th district in the U.S. Congress since 2003, recently took to social media to express her stance on the ongoing debate over a Republican tax proposal. Born in Orange, California in 1969 and currently residing in Whittier, Sánchez has been vocal about issues affecting working families throughout her tenure.
On May 14, 2025, Sánchez shared her thoughts regarding the extended markup session for what she termed as the “Republican tax scam for billionaires.” She stated that after “Seven hours into the Republican tax scam for billionaires markup and @WaysMeansCmte Democrats aren’t backing down.” She expressed gratitude towards Leader Hakeem Jeffries for his support during this time.
Later that day, Sánchez continued to update on the proceedings of the debate. At nine hours into the discussion, she remarked that Democrats were persistent despite opposition from Republicans who had blocked an amendment aimed at repealing tariffs imposed by former President Trump. In her words: “We’re 9 hours into the #GOPTaxScam debate, and Democrats aren’t letting up.”
In a subsequent post made at 3:30 AM Washington D.C. time, Sánchez highlighted continued efforts by Democratic members of the Ways and Means Committee to challenge aspects of the proposed legislation which they viewed as disproportionately benefiting high-income earners. According to Sánchez: “It’s 3:30 AM in DC and @WaysMeansCmte Democrats are STILL fighting the #GOPTaxScam.” The amendments proposed by Democrats aimed at removing benefits for individuals with substantial incomes were reportedly blocked by their Republican counterparts.
Linda Sánchez graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in 1991 and earned a JD from UCLA in 1995.
