Rep. Linda Sánchez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 38th district since 2003, has expressed her concerns on various policy decisions made by President Trump through a series of tweets. Her posts address issues related to IRS staffing, tariff policies, and educational funding cuts.
On February 20, 2025, Sánchez criticized President Trump's decision to dismiss nearly 7,000 IRS employees. She argued that this move was designed to benefit billionaires like Trump and Elon Musk by keeping the IRS understaffed, which she claims allows the wealthy to evade taxes while ordinary Americans bear the financial burden. She stated, "President Trump firing nearly 7,000 IRS employees is a move to protect billionaires like him and Elon Musk. For years, the IRS was understaffed, allowing the wealthy to dodge taxes while everyday Americans foot the bill. This isn’t tackling fraud – it’s rigging the system."
On February 21, 2025, Sánchez commented on Trump's tariff strategies in another tweet. She asserted that his broad tariff threats were not strategic and failed to create a fair competitive environment for American workers. Instead of benefiting families and small businesses through a worker-centric trade agenda that revitalizes U.S. manufacturing, she claimed these tariffs merely increased costs for families. Sánchez wrote, "Trump’s across-the-board tariff threats aren't strategic. They fail to level the playing field for U.S. workers, only raising costs for families."
Later on February 21st, Sánchez raised concerns over substantial cuts in funding for teaching programs under the Trump administration without any reasonable explanation provided. These budget reductions totaled nearly $600 million and affected institutions including Rio Hondo College and Cerritos College. According to Sánchez's tweet: "I’m demanding answers on why the Trump admin canceled nearly $600 million for teaching programs nationwide." She emphasized that such cuts would harm students and undermine educational opportunities.
